The Oboe

Written by Mr Esaias

The Oboe can produce a beautiful, sweet sound. It looks similar to the clarinet but unlike the clarinet it is blown with a double reed which is two pieces of bamboo cane tied together- it is a bit like blowing blades of grass. The oboe is a very important instrument in the wind bands and orchestras because it tunes the other instruments before they all start playing.

Like the flute, the oboe is similar in fingering to the recorder and this can be of great help to beginners.
