BYMT Chamber Choir Tour 2015
At the end of August, 12 members of the BYMT Chamber Choir adventured by minibus to East Grinstead for a weekend of stellar singing. A day of rehearsal and a comfortable night sleeping on the floors of BYMT (we were the first ones ever) was the perfect boost we needed before we set on our way.
A concert at St Mary’s Church, East Grinstead was our first performance, singing our ‘Bach to Bernstein’ collection of pieces, and individuals from the choir added extra glamour to the occasion with their own solo efforts. Comparatively, leg two of the tour added depth to our singing adventure as we joined together with the local congregation in Sunday mass. Although the logistics of the service was bewildering for some of us, we all fitted in fine after awhile and sang fantastically, of course!
Such was the whirlwind of these two days, we finished our tour by doing our own rendition of Alice in Wonderland, as we took a trip down the Bluebell Railway and then wandered through Sheffield Park before we got a last minute glimpse of East Grinstead and headed back home.
Mr Sundermann’s direction was crucial, while Mrs Brown’s assistance and Mr Beach’s piano accompaniment was integral to making the tour an overall success. I think the enthusiasm of our audience for both performances shown by the huge praise and repetitive thank yous proved that we hadn’t mucked up, I hope! As Mr Sundermann would say about our performances, ‘that was well nice, that was - innit’, high praise indeed!
