The Year of the Tuba

Written by BYMT Brass Dept

The Year of the Tuba

Some instruments are more popular than others – that’s a fact! However, without the balance of instruments, a band or orchestra doesn’t make musical sense. For the past decade or so, a few instruments – one of them the tuba – have been on the “endangered species” list. At BYMT, the tuba is certainly endangered as we currently only have 4 tubas across all the Bands and Orchestras.

In an effort to encourage more pupil uptake on this fine instrument, 2017/18 will be The Year of the Tuba! We are finalising plans for the initiative and hope to be able to offer the opportunity to play tuba to many young, aspiring musicians. As an incentive, selected participants new to the tuba will receive one term’s lessons free of charge as well as free hire of the instrument and in time we will hopefully see a rumble of tubas across the BYMT bands!

So get buzzing, who knows – you might be the next Oystein Baadsvik (go on; Google him!).
