The BYMT String Department aims to provide top quality string teaching and ensembles for school children in Bromley. In addition since September we have introduced BAM (Bromley Adult Musicians) which is an orchestra for adults. The String Department looks after violin, viola, cello, bass and harp teaching and lessons on these instruments are available in many borough schools and after school in BYMT (by special arrangement). There is also whole class string teaching in selected schools. The String Department has a number of instruments for hire from beginner level to high quality instruments.
It is our belief that it is of great benefit for children to be part of an orchestra. It helps with motivation and inspiration and is great fun. The String Department provides ensembles from the earliest stages of learning up to our award-winning senior groups such as the Bromley Youth Chamber Orchestra. All these ensembles give regular termly concerts and have the opportunity to perform in a biennial concert in The Fairfield Croydon. In addition we often hold orchestra courses in the school holidays.
It is also our belief that every child should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument - to that end the BYMT Staff String Quartet performs and interacts with children in a school assembly every Monday morning encouraging children to start the exciting and life-enhancing journey of making music.
