The Percussion Department is lead by Chris Woodham.
Throughout many Bromley schools, lessons are available in Drum Kit and Percussion. Our students are aged 4 -18 and range in ability from beginners to post Grade 8.
There are also opportunities to learn percussion at the BYMT Centre where there is the full compliment of professional standard instruments. All students having lessons at the Centre will also be members of a BYMT ensemble. For beginners this will be the Junior Band where they will get the opportunity to learn in the context of an ensemble and for more advanced students there are many options (listed below) including those meeting on a Saturday morning.
Across the borough, in both schools and at BYMT Centre's, there are numerous opportunities to play in a range of Percussion styles including; Tuned Percussion, Latin Percussion, Djembe, Samba and Steel Pan. One off workshops or longer-term whole class ensemble percussion can also be organised through BYMT.
In the Percussion Department we aim to foster an inclusive and inspirational environment, developing musicality and technical ability through hard work and fun! Many young musicians at BYMT make friends for life and go on to make a career in music.
